A Bald Barbie?

Heard about some women who are trying to get Mattel to make a bald Barbie doll. This is supposed to be for little girls who are dealing with cancer and have lost their hair because of the chemo treatments. The idea is that if Barbie is beautiful with no hair, then the little girls will feel better about themselves and not be so self conscious about losing their hair.

I think it is a great idea and I hope Mattel makes a bald Barbie. I would buy one, even though I don’t know anyone fighting cancer right now. I just think it would be good to buy one and support the cause.

Lost at the End

Today I played a hard fought game online. They were winning, then we sprang ahead. Then they came ahead and at the very end, we lost. I don’t mind losing if everyone played smart and played their best. But my partner must have had a brain fart at the very end. Either that or my partner was in cahoots with the other team and threw the game at the very end. It just made me mad to lose because my partner, who had been playing well all along, at the very end he did several really stupid things and we lost. I feel cheated, not defeated.

Pop a Cork!

champagne

I barely got the champagne opened and poured before midnight last night. It was harder to get the cork out than I ever expected. For a moment I thought we were going to have to ditch the champagne and drink Coke. But it worked out. Happy New Year, everybody!

Almost Nice

We all had dinner at my sister’s house yesterday. There were only a couple of people not here with us. My brother’s daughter is dating someone that my brother disapproves of, so she didn’t come and went to her boyfriends family dinner instead. And my other sister lives 6 hours away, so she would have had to leave at 6:00 am to be at the table on time and decided to stay home with her kids. I can’t say that i blame her. It would have been nice to eat later in the day, but then that would have caused conflict for some of us who had more traveling and visiting to do. Honestly, you just can’t please everyone.

Best Intentions

When you have a large family there are always going to be compromises and someone not able or willing to join in a group activity. This year, my sister wants to host the Christmas dinner at her house, and not everyone can be there at 2:00 in the afternoon to eat dinner with us. That’s OK – it is to be expected and those who cannot make it will be missed.

I’m glad that she has offered to host such a large group and she hasn’t even asked for any help with the food or expense. I decided to bring a large pan of my special macaroni and cheese – its a southern thing. Even if no one wants it with their dinner, it reheats wonderfully and she can enjoy it the next day.
