Am I the only one who is aghast at the price of sunblock? It’s a small plastic bottle of a mix of common chemicals. The amount is good for one person to use for three, maybe four, days worth of protection from the sun. So why are they charging $8 on up to $20 for one bottle? This is crazy expensive!

What to Drive?

Had to get a rental car. Sometimes they are a nice introduction to a car that I might consider buying. Sometimes they are a good reminder as to why I would never consider buying that particular model.

This time I drove a Chevy Impala for a couple of days. It’s not a big car for passengers and trunk space, but it does have a lot of leg room and a smooth ride.

The Impala has only two cup holders – that is a deal killer in itself. How hard is it to put a few cup holders in a car for people? There should have been at least 7 or 8 cup holders in that car. Whoever made the decision to just put two cup holders in that car should be fired.

Bloodworms

We wanted to go fishing. We had no bait. We just wanted to stand on the dock and throw some fishing lines over the side. What to use for bait? The local market has crickets, bloodworms and nightcrawlers. They all creep me out. We went with the bloodworms. We caught fish! (And set them all loose.)

Good Movie for All Ages

We went to the theater and watched Toy Story 3. I probably would not have gone to this movie if I hadn’t needed to entertain my niece and nephew for a few hours. But it was a good movie. I think it is for all ages, not just kids.

Saw this woman on TV. Have no idea who she is. But I really like her haircut. I’m thinking about printing this out and showing my hairdresser so she can give me a new do. It’s cute, sassy, and not so short that she looks like a lesbian but not long, either. I like it! Just don’t know if it will look good on ME.

Movie Night

The perfect night to rent some movies and stay at home. Downtown is swarmed with tourists for CMA Fest, and I have no interest in dealing with those crazy crowds. Plus the shows are crowded, expensive, and the big concerts are sold out.

Stopped at Thorntons and got gas tonight and saw the Redbox machine, which gave me the idea. I rented The Blind Side and Dear john. It’s going to be a chick flick night!

Loving Paula Dean

Paula Dean is a southern cook with her own TV show who makes the most delicious foods. Of course, they are all fattening as hell. But they sure do taste good. I bought one of her recipe books and I’m going to start trying some of her suggestions once a week. The rest of the week will have to be low calorie and fat free to make up for it. But I love to eat and I want to eat something that tastes really good.

Hard Boiled

Sometimes I like to make a couple of hard boiled eggs. I like to have them on hand so I can easily add chopped egg to cold salads or to make deviled eggs as a side dish.

To make them only takes a couple of minutes of actual attending the eggs. I take a small pan of cold water, add the eggs in a single layer and put on the small burner on medium heat. As soon as the water comes to a boil, I turn down the heat to low and set the timer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I turn off the burner and let the eggs cool down naturally or put them to immediate use.

Mother’s Day

My mother lives in Virginia, which is a 14 hour drive from my home. There are no major airports near her house out in the country. So getting there is tough and I regret I cannot be there with here for Mother’s Day.

My mom has been a fantastic mother. she is a marvelous cook, kept a spotless house, and made sure that all of us kids had nice, clean clothes and plenty of recreational opportunities. All five of us played in sports, took dance and piano lessons, and had our own little TV in our rooms to watch after our homework was completed.

Too Much Rain

It has been raining here for two straight days and now the city is having problems with flash floods. There was coverage on the TV news this evening about cars being trapped on the interstate that was flooding. Some people were able to abandon their cars and wade through waist high water to safety. Others waited too long to leave their cars and had to be rescued by the police in boats.

The forecast is for more rain tonight and tomorrow. I cam getting very concerned about the flooding here, although my place is on a hill. This is too much rain all at once for our ground to absorb the water.
